Andrew Kelly
Chief Scientific Officer
Dr. Andrew Kelly obtained a first-class honours degree in Biotechnology, followed by a Ph.D. in Molecular Biology, in fungal genome analysis from King’s College London (University of London) as part of an EU-funded project involving partners from Spain and Italy.
Subsequent to this, he also undertook post-doctoral research in E. coli mutant construction and microbial physiology, also at King’s College London. Current scientific activities are still centred on E. coli strain development for improved production of therapeutic proteins and plasmids. [more]
José Luís Moreira
Chief Financial Officer
Dr. José Luís Moreira obtained his degree in Chemical Engineering at the Instituto Superior Técnico (Technical University of Lisbon).
He set-up and was the executive manager of the Animal Cell Technology Unit of Instituto de Biologia Experimental e Biológica (IBET), where he worked until 1999. In 1994 he obtained his Ph.D. Thesis in Chemical Engineering (Faculdade de Ciências e Tecnologia, Universidade Nova de Lisboa), concerning “Animal Cell Aggregate Engineering”. [more]
Phillip Cunnah

Dr. Phillip Cunnah completed his honours degree in Microbiology at University College Wales, followed by a Ph.D. at the Advanced Centre for Biochemical Engineering, University College London. In 1994 he went to Lisbon as a Post Doctoral Scientist at the Instituto Superior Tecnico’s Centro de Engenharia Biologica e Quimica (CEQB), working in the areas of fermentation, downstream processing and application of recombinant enzymes. Didier Landais

Didier brings 20 years of international experience in pharma and biotech to Biotecnol. Dr. Landais worked at Rhône-Poulenc Rorer, Vitry, France as a Project Leader in oncology at the Gene Therapy division: RPR-Gencell, and scientific positions in AIDS research and oncology. [more]
Nico Mertens
Director of Antibody Engineering
Dr. Nico Mertens obtained his B.Sc. at Antwerp University and his Masters in Biotechnology at Ghent University. He obtained his Ph.D. in Biotechnology with Dr. Walter Fiers (University of Gent, Belgium) on protein expression technology. After a few years in a post-doc position, Dr. Mertens headed the Molecular Immuno-Biotechnology Unit at the Flanders Institute of Biotechnology (VIB) where he conceived and developed the Tribody antibody-fragment design and evaluated this in oncology models. Such technology has shown to be a promising tool in the design of novel multi-specific antibodies, which latter on became co-owned and exclusively licensed from VIB to Biotecnol [more]
